EU’S Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)

Preparing the Indian industry for the green trade barriers

The Indian industry has often had to face some barrier or the other on their exports to the developed country markets. With the recent adoption of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism by the European Union (EU), Indian industry is set to face its toughest challenge yet. However, unlike other trade barriers, the CBAM is a very complicated legal regime.

With the transitional phase of the CBAM coming into force from 1st October 2023, the aff­ected Indian sectors are grappling to understand the complex requirements applicable under the CBAM. With the objective of alerting the Indian industry to the challenges that lie ahead, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organizing this intense half-day seminar focused on topics such as the objectives of the CBAM, the implications for exporters from India and their customers in the EU, the obligations under CBAM, calculations of emissions, and risks arising from shortcomings in compliance.

Featuring leading legal practitioners from the EU and India, the seminar will consist of two sessions that will cover concepts and highly nuanced issues that are relevant to the industry.
